Srinagar, August 24, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities arrested the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League (JKML), Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, and placed him under house detention in Islamabad town, today. A JKPL spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Indian police took Mukhtar Ahmed Waza into custody when he came out of his residence and put him under house arrest. He strongly denounced the police action terming as the worst human rights violation.
He also condemned the use of brute force on peaceful protesters by the Indian police on the day of Eid-ul-Azha. The spokesman said that the Indian state terrorism would not be able to intimidate the Kashmiris into submission and they would continue their ongoing freedom movement till it reached its logical conclusion.
The spokesman also expressed concern over Indian government’s attempts to repeal Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution that guarantees special rights and privileges to the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir. He urged New Delhi to resolve the Kashmir dispute by fulfilling its promises of giving the Kashmiri people their inalienable right to self-determination. He also appealed to the UN to take practical steps towards settlement of the Kashmir dispute by implementing its resolutions.
Meanwhile, the Acting Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League, Abdul Ahad Parra, in a statement issued in Srinagar strongly condemned the use of brute force by the Indian forces’ personnel on peaceful protesters at Yaroo Langate. He said that Iqbal Ahmed, the brother of party leader, Sajjad Ahmed Lone, suffered injuries in the eyes due to the firing of the pellets by the Indian forces. He said that several houses and a mosque were also damaged in the forces’ brutal action in the area.
