JRL denounces statement of IOK Governor

Srinagar, October 27, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has denounced the recent statement of Governor, Satya Pal Malik, saying it reflects New Delhi’s arrogance. The Governor of the territory talking to reporters in Srinagar had stated that there would be no talks with the Hurriyat leaders till they stopped consulting Pakistan on the Kashmir dispute.

The JRL in a joint statement issued in Srinagar said there are dozens of UN resolutions that have endorsed the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination to decide their future and it is this legitimate right that people of Kashmir are demanding and striving for it. “Pakistan is as much a party to the dispute as is India. No amount of repression, military might, propaganda or pacification can change these facts,” it added.

The JRL said that many Governors, some of who were generals, some administrators and some politicians came and went in the last 70 years but the reality of the Kashmir dispute had stood as it was. It said Kashmir dispute is an internationally-acknowledged dispute between India and Pakistan with people of entire Kashmir being the main stakeholders.

It said, “Since New Delhi thrust their new deputy to rule over the territory, killings and repression have further worsened.” It said Governor is here on a mission from New Delhi to give the stern message to the people of Kashmir that New Delhi is not interested in resolving the Kashmir dispute and instead will maintain the status-quo on Kashmir.

The JRL said, “Satya Pal Malik must better realize that all his attempts to intimidate and mislead people while undermining the historical facts and the context of the Kashmir dispute are absolutely futile.” The dispute should be resolved either through right to self-determination or through dialogue among the three stakeholders as war between the two countries, as witnessed previously, will prove disastrous, it maintained.
