JRL protests in Srinagar against ban on JI, NIA raids, detentions

Srinagar, March 01, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and activists held a protest demonstration in Srinagar, today, against the arrest of Hurriyat leaders, raids by India’s National Investigation Agency and ban in Jamaat-e-Islami of the territory. Call for the demonstrations was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.

A large number of Hurriyat leaders and activists assembled in Lal Chowk area of Srinagar and chanted slogans like “release all political prisoners”, “Stop NIA terrorism” and “ban on Jamaat-e-Islami unacceptable”. They also took out a rally in the area. Addressing the demonstration, the Hurriyat leaders said, “We condemn the NIA crackdown on our leadership.” Crackdown and subsequent banning of Jamaat is a direct interference in our religious affairs, they added.

The protesters said that ban on religious organisation Jamaat-e-Islami was unacceptable and strongly condemned it. “Most of the religious leaders and JRL leadership has been detained by the police, we demand immediate release of all leaders,” the protesters said.
