JRL seeks UN intervention for peaceful South Asia

Srinagar, July 03, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Joint Resistance Leadership has expressed serious concern over the use of aggressive and repressive measures by the Indian authorities against peaceful and unarmed civilians and pro-freedom leadership in the territory.

The leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement in Srinagar condemned the nocturnal raids, ransacking of properties by the Indian troops and police personnel and said that the pursuing the struggle for right to self-determination was Kashmiris’ birth right. “The fact remains that youth are killed during custody,” the leadership said quoting the killing of Mudassir Ahmad Butt, a resident of Barzulla, Srinagar.

The leadership said Mudasir’s killing has “taken the lid off the myth that militants were killed during encounters under operation ‘All Out’”. Expressing deep anguish over the reports pouring in, the JRL said military actions with vengeance are repeatedly utilized to create a frightful atmosphere in nook and corner of occupied Kashmir. The JRL decried the conduct of the occupation authorities as highly unfortunate and unacceptable and said that the Indian authorities were hell-bent upon curbing and strangulating the genuine aspirations and political voice for right to self-determination.

Hailing the commitment, persistence and unshakable resolve of the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the leaders said that people are facing a big military power suffering from arrogance; however their urge for settlement of the Kashmir dispute had touched the pinnacle and freedom movement emerged as invincible. “Purely political and peaceful movement as recognized in the UN charter is being negated and denied with muscular policy and military might,” the JRL deplored.

The Joint Resistance Leadership appealed to the world community particularly the UN to use its good office and impress upon India to shun its military and egoistic approach against the innocent Kashmiris. It also demanded unbiased intervention by the UN to resolve the lingering Kashmir dispute in the larger interest of peaceful and prosperous South Asia. The JRL supported the demand of the families of martyrs for returning the mortal remains for burial as per religious rituals.
