Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) has called on the government to finalize and approve a National Cotton Policy in consultation with all stakeholders, including the KCA itself.

The announcement comes in light of reports that the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) and Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) are collaborating on a draft policy aimed at reviving the country’s cotton industry.

KCA emphasized the need for a joint strategy to boost cotton production and meet the growing demands of the local textile industry. The association has repeatedly invited stakeholders to collaborate on a strategy to increase production, reduce imports, and enhance foreign exchange earnings. However, the KCA noted an absence of positive responses from other stakeholders.

Highlighting their crucial role, the KCA stressed the importance of exporters as stabilizers of the cotton market, protecting growers’ interests. The KCA insists that any national policy should include their input, given their status as a premier body in the cotton trade.

The KCA also pointed out their previous efforts in drafting a local sale/purchase contract for raw cotton, approved by the PCGA but still awaiting APTMA’s endorsement. They urged APTMA to approve the draft to avoid unnecessary delays.

The KCA reiterated its call for governmental measures to improve cotton quality, standardize bale weight, and enhance production, benefiting the entire industry.
