Karachi plane crash: 97 confirmed dead; 19 including pilot identified yet

KARACHI:The authorities on Saturday confirmed death of 97 people in the yesterday’s Karachi plane crash. Only 19 bodies of the deceased, including the pilot, have been identified yet. However, two people survived, who are under treatment. The identity of other deceased will be ascertained through DNA test.

According to a latest Sindh health department report, 66 bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) while 31others were brought to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). So far, 19 bodies have been identified only. Of 66 bodies at JPMC, 20 were females, 43 males and three children.

The report informed that 16 deceased identified at JPMC include Muhammad Tahir s/o Abdul, Fareha Rasool d/o Ghulam Rasool, Faryal Begum w/o Asadullah, Syeda Saima Imran w/o Syed Imran Hasan, Captain(flight) Sajjad, Farhan s/o Abdul Qabir, Dilshad Ahmed s/o Mubeen Ahmed, Shaheed Mohammad Ahmed s/o Syed Jamal Ahmad, Nida Waqas d/o Irfanullah, Ammar Rashid s/o Rashid Mahmood, Shehnaz Parveen w/o Amanullah Khan, Shoaib Raza s/o M Shareef Raza, Waqas Tariq s/o Muhammad Tariq, Iqra Shahid d/o Shahid, Maham w/o Major Shehriyar, and Alisa Shehriyar d/o Major Shehriyar.

The report said that out of total 31 bodies at CHK, six were females and 25 males. It said the identified victims were Maj Shehriyar shifted to CMCH Malir, Lt Balaj shifted to CMCH Malir, and Syed Danish Shah s/o Syed Ahad Shah.

A Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-8303 crashed in Karachi on Friday. Maracuriously, two people, including Bank of Punjab CEO Zaffar Masood survived. They were shifted to local hospitals in injured condition.

The plane was flying from Lahore to Jinnah International Airport Karachi when it crashed near Model Colony area of the city. A spokesman for Pakistan’s aviation authority confirmed that the plane crashed when it was about to land. Rescue teams rushed to the scene for rescue operation. The heavy smoke was blowing from the damaged plane.
