Kashmiri communities on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world marked Jammu Martyrs’ Day today with demonstrations and prayers, renewing their stated resolve to continue a struggle for self-determination.
The observance on November 6 is dedicated to what Kashmir Media Service describes as one of the “darkest and bloodiest chapters” in Kashmir”s history, commemorating the alleged massacre of hundreds of thousands of Muslims.
According to the media service, the killings were carried out by forces of the Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh, the Indian Army, and RSS-backed Hindu extremists in various parts of the Jammu region.
In what the source refers to as “Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” posters have reportedly appeared urging the public to pay tribute to the Jammu martyrs on their anniversary.
Meanwhile, a public holiday was declared in Azad Jammu and Kashmir for the day”s events. Special prayers were conducted in mosques for the “integrity and prosperity of Pakistan, AJK and early liberation of occupied Jammu and Kashmir.”
Rallies and protest gatherings, arranged by the Kashmir Liberation Cell, Hurriyat, and religious organizations, are taking place in cities and towns across the state.
The principal ceremony for Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Jammu is scheduled to be held in Muzaffarabad under the direction of the Kashmir Liberation Cell.
