KCSDS condemns NIA notice to Mirwaiz

Srinagar, March 13, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) has condemned the summoning of Hurriyat forum Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, by India’s National Investigation Agency in New Delhi for questioning.

The KCSDS in a statement issued in Srinagar criticized India for using its non-political institutions to suppress and persecute the political leadership of occupied Kashmir for demanding right to self- determination for the Kashmiris. It said the very right has been promised by India and upheld by international community through the United Nations Security Council.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is not only a political figure but also a religious personality. “As such the attack is both on the political leadership as well as the religious institution of Mirwaiz and both constitute the life and blood of Kashmiri society,” the statement added.

The Kashmir business community also hit out at the Indian government for harassing the people in occupied Kashmir. Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) leader, Abdul Hamid Mir, condemned the harassment of political leaders, welfare institutions and organisations in the territory. He said socio-religious institutions were a part of Kashmiri history and culture. “Their role in uplift of the poor, orphans and imparting education and Islamic values to a majority of the population is unparalleled,” he said.
