Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is renovating and upgrading 49 of its parks with modern amenities.

According to a statement by KMC today, this year, 47 new parks will be constructed in various areas of Karachi. Complete details regarding the location, area, maps, and facilities provided in all KMC parks will be available on the official website of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation for the citizens.

A quarter of the park area will be designated for various recreational activities and other essential needs. Efforts to make Karachi a green and clean city will succeed with the cooperation of the general public and business associations. He made these remarks while chairing a high-level meeting of the Parks and Recreation Department on Saturday. Municipal Commissioner KMC, Afzal Zaidi, Director General of Parks and Horticulture, Ikhlaq Khan Yousafzai, and other relevant officers were also present at the meeting.

Wahab, stated that although government efforts have significantly improved the situation of parks and recreational spots in the city, further improvements are still needed. Parks in various districts are an essential and basic need for citizens. These must not only be protected from land mafia but should also be equipped with better facilities.

He directed that swings and other equipment in all parks be kept in good condition and that 25% of the park area be reserved for recreational activities and life necessities. No branding should be allowed on national monuments. The Parks Department should ensure that it meets its revenue target for the current financial year and practice frugality in controlling its expenses.

Wahab also mentioned that funds are available for the construction of 47 new parks in the city, so the work on them should be expedited. All parks should provide recreational facilities and food items for citizens. He instructed that complete revenue be collected from contractors providing various services in parks such as Bagh Ibn Qasim, Korangi Family Park, Kashmir Park, and Aziz Bhatti Park so that it can be used for their improvement.

The Parks Department should accelerate beautification efforts in green belts, roundabouts, and along the roads, planting seasonal flowers in all open spaces. He concluded by saying that the development process in the city is in full swing, and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, with the cooperation of the Sindh government, will continue to provide better urban amenities for the citizens in the coming days.
