New York Kuwait reiterated its appeal to warring parties in Libya to practice self-restraint, respect international humanitarian law, not to target civilians and civic installations, and to return to the UN-sponsored political dialogue.
This came in a speech by Kuwait’s acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Counselor Bader Al-Munayikh at the Security Council session on the briefing by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Libya.
Al-Munayikh praised the ICC efforts in achieving justice and ensuring impunity in accordance with international law. He also lauded the important role by Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salame, in applying humanitarian truce to stop the fighting and ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need.
The Kuwaiti official stated that the great responsibility for justice lies within the Libyan authorities through their sovereignty and jurisdiction according to the first article of the Rome Statute. Meanwhile, He welcomed the assistance provided by some countries as well as by regional and international organizations.
