QUETTA: Like other parts of the country, the International Labour Day was observed on Monday across Balochistan.

Labour unions took out rallies, organized seminars and workshops to pay tributes to labourers who sacrificed their lives in Chicago for the rights of labourers. International Labour Day was observed in Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Chaman, Mastung, Noshki, Dalbandin, Kalat, Khuzdar, Dera Murad Jamali, Turbat, Panjgur, Gwadar, Uthal, Lasbella and other cities of Balochistan province to mark the day.

In Quetta different labour unions, including All Pakistan Labour Federation, Pakistan Central Mines Labour Federation, Coal Company Employees Union, State Life Employees Union, United Marbel Mines Workers Union, Quetta Serena Labour Union, Printing Press Labour Union, PMDC Employees Union, Surang, UMC Union and PMDS Employees Union, took out rallies and held demonstration outside Quetta Press Club to express solidarity with the labourers of the in the world.

Addressing the demonstrations, speakers said that due to the sacrifices rendered by martyrs in Chicago, labourers were able to raise voice for their rights, adding that labourers of the country were the victims of exploitation.

They demanded of the authorities to fix Rs 50,000 the wages of labourers, release two (02) billion for the university of Balochistan to overcome the financial crises of the university, end unemployment, inflation and injustice, and regularize the services of all daily wages employees of the province.

They demonstrations were addressed by Muhammad Khan, President, All Pakistan Labour Federation, Muhammad Zameen, President, Coal Company Employees Union, Asad Iqbal, President, State Life Employees Union, Irfanullah, President, Serena Hotel Labour Union, Muhammad Sheraz of Printing Press Union, Najeebullah Achakzai of Utility Store Employees Union, Muhammad Akram Baloch, President, Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University Employees Association, Sajid Khokar, General Secretary, PMDC Employees Union, Suranj, Haji Saifullah, President, UMC union, Abdul Salam Baloch, General Secretary, QESCO Ittehad Workers union, Haji Younas of PMDS, Muhammad Shakir Sumalani of Ramzan Coal Company, Mach and others.

Separately, Balochistan Labour Association in a press conference held at Quetta Press Club here on Monday demanded of the authorities to frame a policy for the welfare of the labourers of Balochistan province. Speaking on the occasion, Syed Usman Shah, Chairman, Balochistan Labour Association said that BLA had been striving for the welfare of carpenters, painters, plumbers, electricians and daily wage earners, adding that labourers of both public and private sectors were playing a significant role to strengthen economy of the country, adding that BLA struggled to make labourers conscious of their role as to how to wage struggle for their rights. On the occasion, Alam Khilji, central president, BLA, Niaz Muhammad, General Secretary and others were also present.
