LARKANA: Members of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and Young Doctors Association (YDA), Larkana Chapter, took out a joint rally from PMA office which culminated at the Main OPD Block of the Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) here on Tuesday against an alleged attack on the CMCH Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr. Abdul Sattar Shaikh, by some miscreants of Larkana late last night at his private clinic.
The junior and senior doctors held a large protest demonstration while holding a large banner in their hands and shouted slogans against lawlessness in the district. Dr. Shaikh is a BPS-20 officer of the Health Department. Before protest the doctors held a general body meeting of the PMA wherein they resolved to take the gangsters to task.
Dr. Gulzar Tunio, Dr. Dayali Gul, Dr. Shahbaig Chandio, Dr. Adeeb Inqilabi, Dr. Muhammad Hashim Bughio, Dr. Ashfaque Soomro, Dr. Muhammad Sharif Pirzado, Dr. Afroze Wagan, Dr. Mazhar Mughal, Dr. Qayoom Memon, Dr. Mahboob Shah and others participated in the rally and demo.
While talking to newsmen they alleged that CMCH MS Dr. Abdul Sattar Shaikh was manhandled by some miscreants of Larkana when he was sitting at his private clinic which we strongly condemn. They said we doctors are always busy in saving human lives but we are being harassed and subjected to torture by some unscrupulous and miscreant persons who are gangsters and extortionists since sometime.
They warned the police and the district administration to arrest the accused involved in the inhuman and barbaric incident within two days, award them exemplary punishment so that no such incident is repeated against doctors and till then we will boycott emergency duties daily from 12 to 2 pm, they added.
Dr. Sattar Shaikh told this scribe that he has sent a five days casual leave application to the health secretary informing him of the prevailing situation that he cannot perform his government duties under the existing circumstances so leave may be granted. He said he is the most senior government servant in Larkana and treatment meted out with him is not only tragic but enough for the powers that be to protect doctors from mischief mongers. He said he has informed the deputy commissioner and also talked to SSP but nothing has yet come out. He said he just wanted justice and protection from the law-breakers who seem to be enjoying local police support hence are powerful.
