Late PPP MNA Soomro’s family gets over Rs 2.91 crore as financial assistance on medical grounds

LARKANA:The PPP Sindh government has paid Rs29,154,508 amount incurred on the medical treatment of its late MNA from Larkana Muhammad Ayaz Soomro after two years of his death.

A letter in this regard had been issued by the Section Officer (B and E-I), Zamir Ahmed Mangi of Finance Department Sindh on 18th November 2019. However, this huge amount was disbursed on 17th March 2020 to his brother Muhammad Rizwan Soomro. The letter addressed to the Administrative Secretary/Principal Accounting Officer, Finance Department, stated that “sanction of government of Sindh is hereby accorded to the release of funds amounting to Rs 29,154,508 as financial assistance on the medical grounds in favour of (late) Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, ex-MNA, incurred on his medical treatment and placed same at the disposal of Secretary Finance Sindh for disbursement to the family of late Ayaz Soomro, subject to fulfillment of all codal formalities.

The funds have been sanctioned out of budgetary provision kept in BE-2019-20 under head of account “SC-21108-Grants and Subventions-107101-Relief Measures-KQ0055-Grants to Others in Sindh-A05214-Discretionary Grant-03-Grants for Chief Minister’s Directives”.

The expenditure will be debitable to the same head of account during current financial year 2019-20, the letter further added. The Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) of Finance Department will present the bill in the office of the Accountant General, Sindh, Karachi, for disbursement to the family of (late) Ayaz Soomro, letter further added. The department advice of even number dated 29.10.2019, issued to Health Department, Government of Sindh, is hereby cancelled/withdrawn, letter concluded. The bill was signed by DDO Aamir Zia Isran.

Ayaz Soomro died at a private hospital in Manhattan, New York on 20th March 2018 at the age of 59 for cardiac ailment. Soomro was elected as MPA in 2002 and 2008 general elections on PPP ticket for PS-37. He was inducted into provincial cabinet as Law and Parliamentary Minister when Syed Qaim Ali Shah was the Sindh Chief Minister.

Later on, he was awarded a party ticket for NA-204 in 2013 general elections from where he secured 50,118 votes defeating his rival PML-Functional candidate. With his demise, PPP also lost a true, faithful and committed leader in Larkana who cared very much about his voters, supporters and workers in time of their need and had also the courage of respecting old party activists.
