Islamabad, November 02, 2021 (PPI-OT):Honourable Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal, Chairman NAB chaired a meeting to review overall performance of NAB at NAB Headquarters. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman NAB said that taking mega corruption cases/white collar crime cases to logical conclusion is the top most priority of NAB. NAB strongly believes in conducting the inquiries and investigations of white-collar crimes on scientific lines that too after collecting solid evidence as per law.
NAB committed to root out corruption in all its forms and manifestations, he added. Expressing satisfaction over the performance of NAB, Chairman NAB directed officers to utilise all available resources to take mega corruption white collar crime cases to logical conclusion.
During the meeting, it was informed that out of 179 mega corruption cases, NAB had filed 94 corruption references in different accountability courts, while 66 references had been taken to logical conclusion. Currently, out of 179 mega corruption references, 09 inquiries and 10 investigations are under process. A total of 1278 corruption references involving Rs 1335 billion are at different stages of hearing in various learned accountability courts.
He said that National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had recovered Rs. 539 billion from the corrupt elements directly and indirectly during the tenure of present management of NAB under the dynamic leadership of Honourable Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal, Chairman NAB. Chairman NAB, Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal has said that measures are being taken to check money laundering.
The money stashed abroad through corrupt means would be taken back to the country as per law. NAB has improved its overall workings with the help of anti-corruption strategy. NAB has fixed a period of 10 months to finish the case right from conducting complaint verification to filing a reference. NAB has introduced a new concept of Combined Investigation Team (CIT) in order to have collective wisdom of senior officers which is lending quality.
NAB has become a role model for SAARC countries in eradication of corruption as Pakistan. Pakistan has become the first chairman of SAARC Anti-Corruption Forum which is a great achievement for Pakistan due to NAB. The bureau was the focal organization of Pakistan under United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). Pakistan was the only country to whom China has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for eradication of corruption. The performance of NAB has been lauded by reputed national and international institutions.
