March 26, 2020

LARKANA: Provincial Irrigation Minister and Focal Person for Corona Virus for Larkana district, Suhail Anwar Siyal, has said that if people did not stay home then conditions would force the government to go for imposing a curfew.

“As people are not prepared to remain home then there will only be one option left which is the curfew. We don’t have capacity to deploy a cop for every door. Coronavirus has spread all over the world and it is a deadly viral disease and its only treatment is adopting preventive measures. The Sindh government has decided to impose a lockdown under emergency to stop spread of the disease,” he said while talking to newsmen at Larkana Press Club Thursday.

Siyal said no positive case had yet been detected in Larkana and 88 suspected cases had been sent to Quarantine Centre established at Areeja Campus of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical University. He said their test report was expected soon. He said at the very outset, their samples were sent which were rejected and then their samples were again obtained but result was still awaited.

He said people coming here from abroad were being tested and if anyone had been left behind he too would be screened. He said the Sindh government had announced a package for poor people and funds had also been released for pre-mature people which would be distributed by relevant deputy commissioner.

Siyal said that he had asked Larkana traders not to increase prices of daily use commodities. He said he had also warned them that if anyone was caught in selling items of daily use at higher rates, he would be taken to task. He said Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had taken notice of dysfunctional ventilators and dialysis machines of Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

He said he had talked to the CMCH Medical Superintendent who had assured that soon these machines would be made functional. He said: “There are only 4000 cops in Larkana district who are unable to force people to remain confined to their residences. Larkana Mayor has also been instructed to maintain cleanliness. Due to imposition of lockdown, corona cases has reduced in Sindh and added that they are trying now to stop local transmission of the virus.”

He admitted that many people had reached here from Iran illegally and they were hiding. He said search was on to locate them and bring them to the Centre for testing.
