Martyred youth’s family stages demo in Srinagar

Srinagar, July 24, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the family members of a martyred youth of Barzulla area of Srinagar staged a demonstration to press the demand for handing over his mortal remains to them. The youth, Mudassir Ahmed Butt, a resident of Nasti Mohalla Old Barzulla, went missing last year. He was killed by Indian troops at Tunga top in Handwara area of Kupwara district on 29th June, this year, and was buried at N K Gali area of the district.

Scores of female family members and relatives of Mudassir Ahmed Butt gathered at Barzulla Bridge and raised slogans to demand his mortal remains. Traffic movement came to a standstill due to the protest. The protestors urged the authorities to handover the body to the family.

“We have been keeping patience as we hope that the authorities would consider our appeal without giving any chance to situation turning ugly. We are just asking the authorities to handover the body and let us perform his last rites,” said Mudassir’s sister, Kaiser Bano.

She said that the family had completed all formalities including identification of body and examination of DNA tests. “However, the authorities are telling us that they are yet to send the DNA tests to laboratory. It is dilly dallying tactic. We totally reject all these excuses,” she added.
