LAHORE: PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday approached the Lahore High Court for the return of her confiscated passport.
A miscellaneous petition was submitted to the LHC on behalf of Maryam today. It was pleaded in the petition that the National Accountability Bureau confiscated her passport in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.
The petitioner regretted that four years had gone by but not even a single reference had been filed against her. As per the constitution, confiscating passport of a person is violation of his/her constitutional rights, the plea stated adding that no one could be deprived of his/her constitutional rights for an indefinite period of time. The petitioner said she was not going to flee the country rather she had come back leaving her ailing mother (abroad) on her deathbed.
The petitioner further pointed out that the NAB law has not imposed any kind of restriction on an accused from travelling abroad. She said she had also deposited Rs70 million in security. She claimed that she was granted bail in Ch Sugar Mills case on merit. She beseeched the court to order the deputy registrar judicial to return her passport.
