Masarrat produced in Srinagar court shifted back to Jammu

Srinagar, March 18, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, illegally detained Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (JKML), Masarrat Aalam Butt, was brought from Amphala jail, Jammu, to Srinagar for hearing of a fake case lodged against him in 2015. The JKML spokesman in a statement in Srinagar said the judge after hearing the case fixed the next hearing on March 29. Masarrat Aalam Butt was later taken back to Amphala jail, Jammu, he added.

The spokesman said Masarrat Aalam Butt has been languishing in jail for last several years, however; it is quite disheartening that he is being subjected to vengeance by the authorities. The authorities are using draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) and other baseless charges as a tool to place Masarat Aalam behind bars, otherwise, courts have repeatedly quashed his illegal detention and directed his release.

The spokesman said putting Masarrat Aalam Butt in jails on concocted charges and slapping repeatedly PSA on him to prolong his illegal detention is nothing but a travesty of justice. “New ways and means are being devised to harass and intimidate Masarat Aalam Butt, but he will never succumb,” the spokesman maintained.

He appealed to the United Nations, OIC, Human Rights Council, International Committee of Red Cross, Amnesty International and other human rights bodies to come forward and take cognizance of the illegal detention of Masarrat Aalam Butt and other Hurriyat leaders and activists and put pressure on India to release them.
