Mayor Karachi attends briefing on Karachi Zoo up-gradation Project

Karachi, February 09, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said the work on the rehabilitation and upgradation of Karachi Zoo has been started and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and World Wildlife Fund have been approached for providing assistance and technical cooperation in this project. The Chief Minister Sindh taking interest in developing Karachi Zoo and he has given approval of this project with initial fund of Rs30million, hope more funds would be provided when required.

The project include the establishment of a Botanical Garden and Wildlife Sanctuary where captives will be kept in natural habitat and cages will be replaced by enclosures with all required standards. He said this while talking to media representatives after attending to a briefing and presentation from the project managers on up-gradation and rehabilitation of Karachi Zoo in Karachi Zoo on Thursday noon.

Project Manager Samar Ali Khan and other members of his team and director general works Shahab Anwer, Sr. Director Coordination Masood Alam, Sr. Director Recreation Mansoor Qazi and others were also present on this occasion. Mayor Karachi said toilet and other facilities will be provided to visitors under this project which also includes the free wifi facility and construction of boundary wall, entry gates, visitors center, underground water reservoir and restoration of electric system in the garden.

He said walking and cycling trails will also be given in the zoo area to visitors like it happened in other well standard parks. On this occasion Mayor Karachi was informed about the details of the project with the help of comparison with other zoological gardens of the world.
