Karachi, January 19, 2018 (PPI-OT):Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said the Faizee Rehameen Art Gallery was an important cultural heritage of the city and this land was gifted by renowned personality of education and culture Begum Atiya Faizee to KMC for the citizens of Karachi. He said this impression was wrong that the land or building of Faizee Rehameen Art Gallery is being handed over to any organization or person. As sole trusty of this land KMC will under the trust deed continue to maintain and run this cultural center and organize cultural and literary activities here.
He was speaking in a briefing given to him on the Faizee Rehameen Art Gallery and its project. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Asghar Abbas Shaikh, chairman land committee Syed Arshad Hassan, legal advisor Azra Muqeem, senior director coordination Masood Alam, senior director Culture and Sports Saif Abbas, director technical to Mayor Karachi S.M Shakaib and other officers were also present on this occasion.
Mayor Karachi directed the officers that the land and building of the Faizee Rehameen Art Gallery will only be utilized in accordance with the trust deed signed in 1952. He said a huge modern auditorium with the name of Aiwan-e-Riffat was also under construction adjacent to this gallery and this project will also be completed.
Earlier while giving a briefing on this project the senior director culture and sports said that Late begum Atiya Faizee and her husband Samuel Fyzee Rahamin was invited by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to shift in Karachi from Mumbai after partition and they were allotted a piece of land in Burns Garden where they in 1952 constructed a building known as Aiwan-e-Riffat along with all valuable collections and treasures of art and culture and later gifted it to the citizens of Karachi under a trust deed.
KMC accepted the trusteeship vide its council’s resolution No.138/52 dated 29th May 1952 according to which the corporation had to maintain the building in proper repairs and preserve the exhibits and permit the public at large to visit the Museum and Picture Gallery and ensure the use of this building for only the purpose described in the trust deed.
