Mayor Karachi presides over meeting on Shahabuddin Market

Karachi, January 31, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said possession order of shops of Shahabuddin Market Saddar will be handed over to allottees on 25th February after which these shopkeepers would be able to do their business in the reconstructed market. Work on phase-II of the project shall also be carried out speedily and the project will be completed entirely in accordance to the original model. Former administrators did not handle this project well and due to this the shifting of old shopkeepers of the market delayed and after nearly ten years they were getting the possession of their shops.

He expressed these views while chairing a meeting in his office on Shahabuddin Market Parking Plaza which was attended by the chairman land committee Syed Arshad Hassan, chairman Estate committee Nasir Khan Taimuri, senior director estate Tasneem Ahmed, director finance, director traffic engineering and other officers besides the president and other office bearers of Shahabuddin Market Shopkeepers Association. Mayor Karachi said the shopkeepers of old Shahabuddin Market Saddar have to wait for a long period due to delay in the completion of the project and not only their suffered loss in their business but the Government and KMC also suffered losses in revenue.

He said the shopkeepers have been provided with all necessary facilities in this market along with security arrangements and encroachments from front side of the market are also being removed. He said this 5 storey project with 445 shops at the upper ground, mezzanine and first floor and has a first phase cost of Rs92 crores and out of these 445 shops booking of 267 shops has been completed from which around one billion revenue is expected whereas revenue of another 57 crores expected from the booking of remaining shops of the first phase.

He said that speedy work is ensured in this project to avoid any further delay and in this connection the Estate, Traffic Engineering, Public Housing and Finance Department have been directed to remove any hurdle in works immediately and complete the project as soon as possible. The shopkeepers of old Shahabuddin Market Saddar informed the Mayor about their problems on which he assured all possible support and cooperation in the completion of this project.
