Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab today extended an invitation to MQM and Jamaat-e-Islami to collaborate in tackling Karachi’s pressing issues and forming a unified strategy for their resolution.
He emphasized the necessity for unity in advocating the federal government’s budget allocation for the K-IV water project and other developmental initiatives.
According to KMC information, Wahab made these remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Madani Football and Cricket Stadium in Mauripur, a project valued at Rs164 million. He disclosed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has allocated Rs20 million for each union council, with a total of Rs220 million designated for the 11 UCs of Mauripur. Plans to repair the RO plant to mitigate water scarcity were also announced, with an assurance that every penny would be dedicated to public service.
Wahab urged the federal government to transfer control of the 200-bed Steel Mill Hospital to KMC if they are unable to manage it. The mayor fulfilled a promise to the Mauripur community by initiating the stadium’s construction, which will feature facilities such as a walking track, dressing rooms, and public amenities. The stadium is expected to be completed within six months.
Wahab also addressed theft-related concerns, attributing them to a mafia backing drug addicts. He called for stringent action against the scrap mafia and warned the SSP Central of accountability if such incidents recurred. On the revenue front, he mentioned that KMC is generating Rs. 55 million from charged parking, with plans underway to make parking free pending council approval.
Additionally, he appealed to the Prime Minister for consistent gas supply during Suhoor and Iftar, recommending the inclusion of key city officials in the boards of SSGC and K-Electric for better decision-making. He expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of the last KMC Council meeting and reiterated the continuation of development efforts across Karachi’s districts.
Meanwhile, on International Women’s Day, Mayor Wahab in a statement acknowledged the significant contributions of women in Pakistan’s history and development. He highlighted the roles of prominent figures like Fatima Jinnah and Benazir Bhutto, emphasizing the importance of women’s education and empowerment for the nation’s progress. He reaffirmed the Pakistan People’s Party’s commitment to advocating for women’s rights and their active participation in society.
