Islamabad, January 24, 2019 (PPI-OT): Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani has said that media is the importance segment of society and the proactive role of journalists provides necessary guidelines for steering the agenda of social and national development. But unfortunately the problems of professional journalists, who highlight the issues of all segments of society, remain neglected. The rights of professional journalists must be protected by implementation on the existing laws and if required new legislation should be carried out to this effect. He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of Peshawar Press Club at Parliament House here on Thursday. Senator Khanzada Khan was also present on this occasion.
Sadiq Sanjrani said that the journalists from Peshawar and other areas of KPK have offered the sacrifices during the war on terror and have played a proactive role for establishing peace in the troubled regions. Their sacrifices cannot be over looked. He said that the Upper House of the Parliament would play its due role for promotion of media and protection of the journalists in the country. The problems highlighted by the delegation would be deliberated with the relevant stakeholders for their early solution. He said that necessary measures should be taken for implementation on the existing laws for job protection of the media person in the country.
Earlier, representatives of the Peshawar Press Club apprised the Chairman about the problems being faced by the journalist community. They informed the Chairman that different TV channels and media organizations are depriving the professional journalists of their job without giving notices and requested the Chairman to take up the issue at appropriate level.
