The Parliamentary Reporters Association of Pakistan (PRA) has ushered in a new leadership team, with M.B. Soomro elected as its new President, following a widely praised democratic election process.

The newly elected body is now entrusted with the critical responsibility of safeguarding journalistic principles and preserving the dignity of the nation”s parliament.

The 2025-27 PRA ballot was hailed as a historic and successful event, conducted in an atmosphere of trust and tranquility. A commendation from the National Assembly of Pakistan extended gratitude to all parliamentary correspondents, veteran journalists, and the Election Committee for their commitment to a fair and democratic process.

Assuming key roles alongside President Soomro are Naveed Akbar as the new Secretary and Usman Kakar as Vice President. The executive team is further composed of Aurangzeb Kakar as Joint Secretary, Shakir Abbasi as Finance Secretary, and Javed Hussain, who will serve as the Information Secretary.

The newly constituted Governing Body includes a diverse group of journalists: Asiya Ansar, Javed Noor, Ahmad Nawaz Khan, Rozina Ali, Ghulam Rasool Kumbhar, Umar Hayat Khan, and Hafiz Abdul Majid.

High expectations are placed on the new administration to champion journalistic integrity and perform a vital role in protecting the decorum and importance of the parliament. The successful conclusion of the vote and the transition of leadership have been warmly received by the entire PRA membership.
