Meeting at Governor House: President Alvi urges enforcement of SOPs against Covid

KARACHI: A high level meeting was held at the Governor’s House under the chairmanship of President Dr Arif Alvi on Saturday, which was also attended by Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, Member National Assembly J Prakash, Member Sindh Assembly Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Saeed Afridi, Khurram Sher Zaman, Bilal Ghaffar and Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh.

Federal Minister Asad Umar briefed the President in detail about the Covid situation, especially the presence of Indian virus in the fourth wave and also gave a briefing on the ongoing federally funded development schemes and future plans for the province.

President Alvi said that implementation of SOPs for prevention of corona virus should be ensured, adding people should be vaccinated as soon as possible and the instructions of NCOC should be strictly followed.

The president directed the Sindh governor to hold a meeting with scholars of different schools of thought ahead of Muharram to ensure implementation of SOPs at religious places and congregations during Muharram.

He said: “Let the people show responsibility in this difficult time. During Eid prayers at Faisal Masjid Islamabad, people have avoided implementation of NCOC and other related directives which is a matter of concern.”

Alvi further said that through effective strategy, only poverty alleviation and sustainable development was possible. “The efforts of the federal government regarding development schemes in Karachi and other districts of the province are commendable,” the president added.

The Sindh governor said that people should use masks, stay away from rush and get vaccinations administered. To ensure the solution of environmental, economic and social problems. Federal Minister Asad Umar said that the federal government was working on the agenda of sustainable development in Sindh province. He further said that SOPs were being strictly implemented in major cities and tourist destinations through a two-pronged strategy.
