Islamabad, February 23, 2019 (PPI-OT): The second meeting of Steering Committee for the Project entitled “Establishment of Sub-Campuses of Public Sector Universities at District Level Phase-I” was held at Higher Education Commission, Islamabad. Dr. Tariq Banuri, Chairman HEC chaired the meeting that was attended by representatives of provincial higher education departments and vice chancellors of the partner universities.
The Chairman highlighted the main objectives of Government’s policy to increase access of higher education in the country without compromise on its quality. The Steering Committee reviewed progress of the project. It was appreciated that 19 campuses have been established in remote and less developed districts, previously having no higher education institution, and are imparting quality education to students of these areas.
The Committee also appreciated the efforts of partner universities for enrolling 3391 students in these campuses setup in less privileged areas of the country. In addition to other decisions, the Steering Committee considered and approved proposal for establishment of University of Gujrat campus at Mandi Bahauddin, Government College University Faisalabad campus at Hafizabad, and Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro campus at Jacobabad, subject to fulfilment of all the requirements and quality indicators.
