Minister assures loadshedding-free Eid

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Power Division Khurram Dastgir on Saturday shared good news with the people claiming there would be no loadshedding during the three Eid holidays across the country. Dastgir said in a statement that staff of electricity distribution companies will remain in the field to fix any possible fault. The federal minister said sacrificial animal meat will not be rotting because electricity will be available throughout the Eid holidays. He also appealed to the citizens to distribute surplus meat among the poor.

Earlier, the federal government claimed improved electricity availability as Pakistan has resumed the supply of Afghan coal to the 1320MW Sahiwal power plant, and hydel generation from Tarbella has increased by 2500MW.

Minister for Power Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan has however said that 969MW Neelum Jhelum Power Plant is offline due to the emergence of a technical fault at the tunnel. The cause of the fault was being investigated and all-out efforts would be made to remove the faults and bring it online as soon as possible, the minister added.
