Islamabad, September 20, 2019 (PPI-OT): Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination is organizing a meeting of Forum on “Cooperation between Pakistan and China, Friendship Provinces/Cities” on 18th – 19th November, 2019. A high level delegation of China will participate in the Forum. This initiative to bring the people of China and Pakistan closer together under the theme of “Good governance of local government system” is an outcome of the Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to China in November, 2018. An important outcome of his visit was to celebrate 2019 as the “Year of Friendship sister provinces/cities”.

In this regard, preparatory meeting consisting of Secretaries of Local Government Departments of Provinces, and representatives of relevant Federal Ministries/Divisions along with representatives of Chambers of Commerce and Industries, was held in the Ministry of IPC, on 19th September, 2019. The honourable Minster for IPC, Dr. Fehmida Mirza chaired the meeting. During the meeting it was resolved that the on-going sister provinces/cities enterprise connecting the different cities of the two countries will yield many socio-economic benefits and full preparation will be undertaken to ensure a successful event.

The honourable Minster for IPC emphasized to enhance exchanges and dialogue between local leaders and officials at provincial/city levels. She asked to expand cooperation in areas of economy, trade, transportation, energy, industry, tourism, education, people to people contacts and livelihoods. The Secretary, Ministry of IPC stressed that concentrated efforts should be made on the basis of equality and mutual benefits to promote people-to-people contract and economics trade interflow between the sister cities. The participants from provincial/city governments shared their views/input for finalization of the MoUs for its implementation at local level. They assured that they will focus to raise the progress on the MoUs already signed between the sister cities.
