Ministry: (PM will appear before SC today: Khurshid)


RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Shah, dispelling the impression of standoff among state institutions, said that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would appear before the apex court today (Thursday).

Talking to media persons here on Wednesday, Syed Khurshid dispelled the impression regarding the government non-cooperation with the judiciary and said the Prime Minister would appear before the court to offset the impression that the government is in confrontation with the judiciary.

Khurshid made it clear that the elements, who were conspiring to create misunderstandings and confrontation between government and institutions, would be disappointed on Thursday. He said the government will take all decisions by staying within the constitutional ambits, as the government has great respect for the judiciary and its decisions will be implemented as per the provisions of the constitution.

The Minister said that the PM Gilani always stressed on the independence of judiciary and will not take any action that would be considered contempt of court, adding, “Our Prime Minister spoke of the independence of judges prior to his oath as the premier.”

Earlier addressing a one day Hajj Conference‚ the Minister for Religious Affairs said the new Hajj policy will envisage more facilities for the pilgrims.
