Mirza slams water crisis in tail-end areas of Badin

Badin: MPA from Tando Bago and the parliamentary leader of Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) in Sindh Assembly, Barrister Hasnain Mirza on Sunday flayed the irrigation water crisis in most of the tail-end areas of the district Badin for the past many months.

Barrister Mirza in a statement deplored the fact that despite the ample water at Kotri Barrage, the tail-end areas of Badin district were without water even for drinking purposes adding he alleged that those at helm of the affairs, had already messed up with the things and were bent upon destroying the agriculture of the district and other parts of southern Sindh.

He accused the officials of both Sida and irrigation of willfully depriving the farmers of water in Tando Bago, Golarchi and Badin talukas of their due share of water in their water canals and outlets. The GDA leader said that farmers had stated sowing the seedlings of the rice, the chief crop of the area, soon after Sindh irrigation minister and other officials, had assured that the ample water would be released in the irrigation channels by the last week of May, adding that it was cruel joke with those, whose seedlings and cultivated rice crop were withering away due to the shortage of the required water.

The MPA said that it was the prime duty of the rulers of Sindh to ensure judicious water distribution across Badin and other districts of the province adding he warned the officials to mend their ways and provide the all areas with required water. He warned that if the areas were not provided with water within the next seven days, people despite the Covid-19 pandemic would come on the roads and streets to register their protest against what he called the cruelties of the officials of Sida and irrigation departments.
