Mother of four children tries to commit suicide due to lockdown, poverty

NAUNDERO:A 35-year-old mother of four little children tried to commit suicide by taking a poisonous substance due to continuous lockdown and poverty in village Bharchoond near here on Thursday.

Dilshad Khatoon, wife of Lakhmeer Jakhro, tried to commit suicide by drinking poisonous chemical lying in her home as she could not see her little kids dying of hunger. She was immediately rushed to the local hospital for treatment.

Her brother Sadaruddin Jakhro told newsmen that husband of his sister was a labourer, a daily wager, and since 18 days of lockdown, he had become unemployed and could not earn livelihood to feed his poor family members.

He said local influential political people gave them ration for two to three days and since then, they were facing starvation and his sister could not see her children dying of hunger so she wanted to end her life so that she could not see her children facing worst hunger, he added.

Jakhro said Sindh government was constantly keeping poor poverty-stricken people on false claims of giving ration to them but had done practically nothing for those who voted for them and brought them to power.
