MRI machine out of order in CHK

KARACHI:Patients are facing grave hardships at the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital (CHK) as an important diagnostic machine, MRI, is lying out of order there for several months.

An official at Radiology Department, requesting not be named, told PPI news agency that the MRI machine had developed some technical fault several months ago and it was yet to be repaired.

The CHK is major teaching hospital of Sindh where score of patients are brought every day from different areas of Karachi and rest of Sindh and many of them need diagnostic services such as MRI. However, as this major diagnostic machine is not functioning, poor patients are being referred to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and other labs for MRI tests.

Private labs charge heavy fees for conducting diagnostics tests which are out of reach of poor patients. The CHK is the only major hospital of the city that offers all kind of diagnostic facilities to patients free of cost. Medical Superintendent, CHK, Dr Khadim Qureshi, while talking to PPI, said the out of order MRI machine will be respired soon, as work had already been in progress.
