ISLAMABAD:The National Assembly on Tuesday adopted a resolution extending the General Statistics (Re-organization) Amendment Ordinance, 2022 for a further period of one hundred and twenty days.

It was moved by Minister for Commerce Naveed Qamar. At the onset, the House offered fateha for those killed in recent terrorist incident in North Waziristan and former Provincial Minister Bakht Baidar Khan who passed away in Lower Dir a few days back. The Chair said our security forces have rendered immense sacrifices in the war on terrorism. Strongly condemning the terror incidents, he said we have to fight this menace with unity.

Later, the House continued discussion on the budget for the next fiscal year. Participating in the budget debate, Shahnaz Baloch said the relevant stakeholders should sit together to chart out a way forward to rid the country of debt. She said special focus should be given to the development of Balochistan.

Riaz ul Haq said the government should address the issue of circular debt. He said water reservoirs should be constructed to overcome the issue of water scarcity and ensure food security. Shams-un-Nisa was appreciative of the government for extending relief to the masses including employees in the budget regardless of the difficult economic situation.
