The Parliamentary Reporters Association of Pakistan (PRA) has ushered in a new leadership team, electing M.B. Soomro as its new President to guide the influential journalistic body for the 2025-27 term. The successful and peaceful conclusion of the elections drew immediate commendation from the National Assembly’s media wing.

In a formal statement issued Friday, Director General Media of the National Assembly, Zafar Sultan, extended his heartfelt felicitations to the newly elected officials. He lauded the PRA, describing it as ‘an institution that safeguards both parliamentary reporters and the core values of parliament.’

The election process itself was celebrated as a ‘historic and successful event.’ Mr. Sultan expressed his gratitude to the association’s members, senior colleagues, and the Election Committee for conducting the polls in an atmosphere of tranquility, trust, and democracy.

The new slate of office bearers includes M.B. Soomro as President and Naveed Akbar as Secretary. They are joined by Usman Kakar as Vice President, Aurangzeb Kakar as Joint Secretary, Shakir Abbasi as Finance Secretary, and Javed Hussain as Information Secretary.

The Governing Body will be composed of Asiya Ansar, Javed Noor, Ahmad Nawaz Khan, Rozina Ali, Ghulam Rasool Kumbhar, Umar Hayat Khan, and Hafiz Abdul Majid.

Looking ahead, Zafar Sultan expressed his optimism that the new leadership would continue to uphold journalistic values with integrity. He emphasized their vital role in preserving the sanctity and dignity of the legislative body. ‘Once again, my heartfelt thanks to all members of PRA Pakistan,’ he concluded.
