NAB has solid evidence of corruption by the untouchables: Chairman

Islamabad, October 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Honourable Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal, Chairman NAB chaired a meeting to review the performance of Prosecution Division overall performance of NAB at NAB Headquarters. Chairman NAB has said that NAB has solid evidence of billions of rupees of corruption and corrupt practices by the big fish: NAB’s 1274 references are under trial in the Learned Accountability Courts of Rs. 1305 billion. Mr. Hussain Asghar, Deputy Chairman NAB, Syed Asghar Haider, Prosecutor General Accountability, Zahir Shah, Director General Operations whereas all DGs of regional bureaus attended the meeting via video link.

During the meeting, it was informed that Prosecution Division is working closely with Operations Division NAB headquarters in order to have legal assistance to NAB’s Operations Division and all Regional Bureaus of NAB in conduct of complaint verifications, inquiries, investigations, references and pending cases of NAB vigorously on the basis of solid evidence in the respected Courts as per law. During the meeting, it was informed that on the directions of the Chairman NAB, constant deliberations, monitoring and performance analysis of the Prosecution Division are being made. Due to this reason the overall conviction ratio is approximately 66.8 percent in the Learned Accountability Courts.

Honourable Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal, Chairman NAB said that logical conclusion of mega corruption while collar crime cases against big fish is the top priority of NAB. NAB is committed to eradicate corruption by adopting the “Accountability for All” policy which has started yielding excellent results.

Chairman NAB directed Prosecution Division, Operations Division and all Regional Bureaus of NAB to put in their best efforts in vigorously pursuance of under trial cases of NAB with complete preparation on the basis of solid evidence in accordance with law so that corrupt elements should be brought to justice and looted money should be recovered considering it as national duty as per law. He said that NAB during the tenure of the present management from Oct 2017 to August 2021 has recovered Rs. 539 billion and Rs.819 billion since its inception.

The Chairman said that NAB from Oct 2017 to August 2021 is a record achievement as compared to other years which shows complete commitment and dedication of NAB officers towards performance of their national responsibilities in eradication of corruption from the country.

He said that NAB is the focal institution of Pakistan under the UN Convention against corruption and the chairman of SAARC Anti-Corruption Forum. NAB is considered a role model organization in SAARC countries. He said that NAB has established Forensic Science LAB with an aim to equip NAB with latest technology to cater for its emerging needs to eliminate the menace of corruption from the society.

Enumerating the achievements and initiatives of NAB, the Chairman NAB said the NAB is striving to rid the nation of corruption and corrupt practices by adopting a zero tolerance policy. He said a concept of combined investigation Team (CIT) has been introduced as investigation officers and prosecution are working as a team to ensure transparency and unbiased investigations. He said that it is evident that only those nations have developed and remained successful who have rooted out the menace of corruption.

He said NAB is trying to eradicate corruption by utilizing all its resources besides creating awareness among the people about the ill effects of corruption so that Pakistan should be made corruption free. The Chairman NAB said that NAB’s Forensic Science LAB is meeting our professional requirements and is now equipped with all basic tools/equipment to give expert evidence in all three above sections. He said that the performance of NAB has been lauded by reputed national and international institutions.
