London, September 05, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan High Commissioner in Britain, Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, facilitated by the All-Party Parliamentary Kashmir Group (APPKG) in the House of Commons held a meeting with a large number of UK parliamentarians and apprised them of the prevailing situation of occupied Kashmir.
The High Commissioner briefed the British parliamentarians on the tragic human rights situation and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the occupied territory. He said that since 5th August 2019, in particular, and for the past seven decades in general, Indian governments had been perpetrating grave human rights violations in the territory.
He said that the Indian atrocities, such as mass killings, fake encounters, abductions, forced disappearances and use of prohibited weapons such as pellet guns and cluster munitions had caused incalculable sufferings to Kashmiris. These atrocities come under the ambit of crimes against humanity under all human rights and humanitarian conventions, statutes and the United Nations resolutions, he added.
The High Commissioner underlined that complete lockdown in occupied Kashmir for the last over a month with no communication with rest of the world and the reports of killings, abductions, illegal detentions, rapes and use of pellet guns against the defenceless Kashmiris was a matter of deep concern. Since there is no access to media in the territory, the actual scale of atrocities could be much more keeping in view the Indian governments’ track record, he maintained.
He said that all the human rights violations were taking place in the 21st century and amidst protectors of human rights by world’s so-called largest democracy. He called for an immediate end to bloodshed in occupied Kashmir, delivery of justice to the victims and accountability of the perpetrators as demanded by the international human rights bodies and members of the civil society.
The High Commissioner reiterated that Pakistan would continue its moral, political and diplomatic support to the oppressed people of occupied Kashmir in realization of their inalienable right to self-determination and would do everything in its capacity to ensure delivery of justice to the people of occupied Kashmir. He lauded all the British parliamentarians for becoming voice for the oppressed people of Kashmir.
The British parliamentarians noted with concern the tragic situation of human rights as well as blockade of occupied Kashmir imposed by the Indian government which has led to severe humanitarian, political and security crisis in the territory.
Acknowledging that Kashmir was an internationally recognised dispute awaiting implementation of the UN resolutions, they agreed to continue to work towards ensuring an end to the sufferings of the people of occupied Kashmir.
