National Assembly National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development meets

Islamabad, October 08, 2021 (PPI-OT):The National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development expresses concern over non-implementation of its previous recommendations for prevention of corruption, embezzlement, etc., in different sub-ordinate department of Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development.

17th meeting of the Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development was held today at 11:00 a.m. in the Old PIPS Hall, Parliament Lodges, Islamabad, under the Chairmanship of Sheikh Fayyaz ud Din, MNA.

While reviewing the compliance status of its previous recommendations, the Standing Committee noted that the actions taken by the Ministry in compliance to its recommendations regarding prevention of corruption, embezzlement, etc., being done in different sub-ordinate departments of the Ministry were not satisfactory. Thus, directed that a comprehensive reply; based on actual facts and figures, should be provided to it before next meeting of the Committee.

While briefing on the issue of welfare of Mineworkers, the Secretary, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development apprised that on the directions of the Standing Committee, Employees’ Old Age Benefits Institute (EOBI) and Provincials Governments were requested to devise a policy to register the Mineworkers on the basis of quantity of production as well as initiate a proper legislation for their betterment.

He informed that the Ministry already have submitted a draft policy regarding registration of the Mines and Mineworkers on tonnage/production basis in compliance with the recommendations of the Standing Committee. The Committee was not satisfied with the briefing and directed the Ministry to come up with complete details and brief the Committee in the next meeting. The Committee also decided that the next meeting would be held at Quetta in November.

Regarding the issue of Ms. Guli Rozi, wife of Mr. Ghulam Durrani, who stuck in China since 2016, the Director General (China), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, informed the Committee that the Chinees Authorities were contacted. They informed that Ms. Guli Rozi don’t want to come back Pakistan and decided to settle there on her own sweet will. He further said that the concerned department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs will approach Ms. Rozi her and further details will be submitted in next meeting.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Shahid Ahmad, Mr. Sajid Khan, Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Khan Dullah, Haji Imtiaz Ahmed Choudhary, Mr. Atta Ullah, Ms. Sobia Kamal Khan, Ms. Tashfeen Safdar, Syed Javed Hasnain, Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi, Syed Abrar Ali Shah, Dr. Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto, Mr. Muhammad Jamal Ud Din, MNAs besides the senior officers from M/o Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, M/o Foreign Affairs, M/o Finance, OPF, BE and OE, EOBI and WWF.
