National Assembly Speaker announces 25 Member Self- Funded Parliamentary Cricket Squad to participate in Inter Parliamentary Cricket World Cup Parliamentary Team To Bear Expenses Itself In Order to Allay Burden on Public Exchequer

Islamabad, June 15, 2019 (PPI-OT): A twenty-five Members self-funded Pakistan Parliamentary Cricket Team (PPTC) has been announced with Makhdoom Zain Hussain Qureshi, MNA as its Captain. The Team will participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Cricket World Cup (IPCWC) being staged from 8 to 15 July, 2019 in London. Notification to this effect had been issued by the National Assembly Secretariat. Teams of Parliamentarians from Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa will play alongside the United Kingdom in the Inter- Parliamentary Cricket World Cup.

Besides the Captain and the all rounder Qureshi, the team includes Deputy Speaker National Assembly Mr. Qasim Khan Suri, Governor Khyber Pukhtoonkhawa Mr. Shah Farman, Senator Agha Shahzeb Durrani, MNAs Mr. Ali Nawaz Awan, Mr. Ali Amin Khan, Mr. Sheryar Khan Afridi, Mr. Ali Zahid, Mr. Ameer Sultan, Mr. Murtaza Mehmood, Mr. Mustafa Mehmood, Mr. Imran Khattak, Mr. Sadaqat Abbasi, Mr. Naveed Dero, Mr. Mujahid Ali, Mr. Atta Ullah Khan, Mr. Shahid Khattak, MPAs Mr. Ali Haider Gillani, Mr. Mehmood Bakhsh, Mr. Mobeen Khilji, Mr. Abbas Jaffri and Mr. Ahmad Kundi. The Prime Minister and the Speaker would be the honorary members in the Parliamentary Cricket Team. Mr. Ayaz Akbar and Mr. Sheryar Khan have been designated as Team Coach and Team Manager, respectively whereas Mr. Mazhar Ali and Mr. Ibrar Haider, Assistants will be assisting the team coach and the team manager.

The expenses on account of transportation to UK, accommodation and other allied expenses will be borne by the team members and the managerial staff. This decision had been taken keeping in view the ongoing austerity measures adopted by the Parliament of Pakistan and other government departments in order to allay the burden on public exchequer.

The team was selected by the Pakistan Cricket Board after a rigorous process of coaching and assessment on the field while playing friendly matches with Cricket clubs and departmental teams held in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The Speaker while announcing the PPCT said that he was delighted and impressed with the way Parliamentarians had been progressing day by day during the coaching and friendly matches. He said that he was confident that Pakistan Parliamentarians Team would excel at top level in the Inter-Parliamentarians Cricket World Cup. The Speaker Asad Qaiser, a keen follower of cricket further said that it was magnificent to see the enthusiasm of Pakistan Parliamentarians, who were proceeding to UK for the Inter-Parliamentary Cricket World Cup.

The Speaker was convinced that the event would prove to be a wonderful opportunity for the Parliamentarians from the cricket playing nations to meet and engage, and to demonstrate the power of connections across the world and foster these relations with our friends within the Commonwealth and the World.
