National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has pledged his unwavering commitment to journalistic freedom, assuring parliamentary reporters of all necessary support to perform their professional duties, according to a statement released by the National Assembly on Saturday.
The assurance came during a meeting on Friday at the Parliament House with a delegation from the Parliamentary Reporters Association Pakistan (PRAP), led by its newly elected President, M.B. Soomro.
The PRAP contingent, which also included Secretary Naveed Akbar, Ahmad Nawaz, and Javed Hussain, formally apprised the Speaker of their recent election and requested that he administer the oath to the new body.
Mr. Sadiq graciously accepted the invitation, confirming he would officiate the swearing-in ceremony for the PRAP leadership during the forthcoming session of the National Assembly.
Extending his congratulations to the new office-bearers, the Speaker lauded the vital role of parliamentary journalists in providing transparent and effective coverage of legislative proceedings. He stated that independent and responsible journalism is pivotal for strengthening democratic institutions and promoting public awareness.
The Speaker reaffirmed that the National Assembly Secretariat would continue to extend its full cooperation to the newly elected PRAP body to promote credible and impactful reporting of parliamentary affairs.
