Islamabad, February 26, 2018 (PPI-OT): 2nd meeting of the Special Committee on Child Abuse was held today under the Chairmanship of Ms. Mariyam Aurangzeb, MNA. The meeting started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. The Committee decided to proceed with the agenda. The Committee unanimously confirmed the minutes of its previous meeting held on 19-02-2018.

The Director General, M/o Human Rights informed that to effectively coordinate, monitor and promote the Rights of the Child, the National Commission on the Rights of the Child Act, 2017 has been promulgated. The Human Rights proposed to include the issue of Child Abuse in curricula and schools may conduct teacher’s trainings on protection of children from abuse.

The MD PCTB Lahore briefed about steps taken by the provincial government regarding educating parents, children and community regarding for Child Protection. The Chairperson appreciated work done by the PCTB Lahore.

The Committee recommended enforcing the implementation of laws, and speedy processing of the cases for punishing the culprits. It was also recommended that IG Punjab and IG KPK shall be directed to brief the Committee regarding the recent Child Abuse Cases in the next meeting.

Hon. Members Ms. Sabiha Nazir, Ms. Shaista Pervaiz, Ms. Shahida Akhtar Ali, Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, Mr. Ali Muhammad Khan, Ms. Kishwer Zehra and Sahibzada Tariqullah attended the meeting besides the senior officers from the Ministry of Human Rights, Ministry of Law and Justice.
