National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs meets

Islamabad, October 07, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs met in Parliament House, Islamabad this Afternoon under the Chairmanship of Malik Muhammad Ehsan Ullah Tiwana, MNA/Chairman. The Committee highly appreciated the dedication and sincere efforts of the present management of M/o Energy (Petroleum Division) towards Turkmenistan- Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Gas Line Project. The Committee however, directed that ministry may take stringent measures to remove obstacles to the agreements, if any through effective diplomacy so that the TAPI project could be completed without further delay.

The Committee directed that M/o Energy (Petroleum Division) may develop a proper liaison with all concerned countries to accomplish the TAPI project at the earliest as the said project is equally beneficial for all countries and would help for economy growth of the region as well.

The Committee while discussing the Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline Project, expressed concern that said project could not be completed due to US sanctions on Iran as it could become viable for the domestic needs and industrial growth of Pakistan as well. Earlier, Secretary, M/o Energy (Petroleum Division) briefly apprised the Committee about the efforts made by them to complete the TAPI and Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline Projects and problems faced by them in this regard.

The meeting was attended by Makhdoom Zain Hussain Qureshi, MNA, Mr. Jamshed Thomas, MNA, Mr. Ali Zahid, MNA, Mr. Muhammad Khan Daha, MNA, Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi, MNA, Ms. Maiza Hameed, MNA, Mr. Ehsan Ur Rehman Mazari, MNA, and officials of M/o Foreign Affairs and M/o Energy (Petroleum Division).
