A National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) team visited Shaheed Benazirabad Civil Hospital, where it met with Sobia Batool Shah, a victim of recent violence.

According to a NCHR statement on Monday, the visit aimed to ensure her wellbeing and assess the support provided by medical professionals and civil society organizations. From the day of the incident, the NCHR, along with the Women’s Action Forum (WAF), has maintained close contact with Sobia’s family and the local police to monitor the situation and offer support.

The visiting delegation included Commissioner Sindh Anis Haroon, Chandan Malhi, and WAF team members Shireen Asa’ad Zounr and Madam Atiya. They engaged with the doctors treating Sobia and her family to discuss the possibility of transferring her to Karachi for further medical treatment, should it be necessary.

The victim’s family expressed their satisfaction with the care provided by the hospital’s medical staff and appreciated the cooperation from civil society organizations (CSOs). The NCHR commended the Sindh police for their prompt action in ensuring Sobia’s protection and in apprehending the culprits, including her father, who were involved in the incident.

The NCHR Member (Sindh) Anis Haroon stated, “The Commission is committed to ensuring that Sobia receives all necessary support and protection. We are prepared to arrange for her transfer to Karachi if her medical condition requires advanced treatment. Additionally, we have coordinated with local authorities to provide her a safe environment.”

Sobia Batool Shah will soon be shifted to Darul Aman for her safety and continued care. The Commission has assured her family of all necessary assistance during this transition.

The NCHR and WAF remain steadfast in their mission to protect human rights and provide support to victims of violence. The Commission will continue to work closely with law enforcement and other relevant bodies to ensure justice and support for Sobia Batool Shah.
