KARACHI: Minister Works and Services and Pro- Chancellor of Engineering and Technology Universities of Sindh Syed Zia Abbas Shah said Wednesday that every parents wanted their child to study at NED University.
“NED rankings in engineering sector universities around the world are a source of pride for the entire country. The Sindh government has supported universities in the past and will continue to do so in the future. The NED sub-campus in Thar is performing well, he said while presiding over the 30th Senate session held under NED University.
He said that the rising standard of NED University and its graduate engineers is an example to the whole world. Shah said that the advancement of technology is a matter of time so that we can keep pace with the world. The Sindh government has been supporting universities in the past and will continue to do so, as evidenced by the doubling of education grants, he said and added that NED sub-campus in Thar was performing well and students from all over Sindh were being benefited.
He congratulated the team including Vice Chancellor for turning the previous budget into a surplus. It may be recalled that NED University had completed 100 years. Secretary Universities and Boards Mureed Rahmon was also present in the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr Sarosh Hashmat Lodi said that it was welcome that the grants of universities across Sindh would be doubled. Lodi presented the annual performance report in the Senate session.
Talking about the budget in the meeting, Lodi said: “The budget for 2021-2022 started with a deficit of Rs167.695 million, but the university is ending it with a surplus of Rs1.118 million while the budget for 2022-2023 is Rs3,798.806 million. This budget starts with an estimated deficit of Rs211.144 million. Attempts will be made to surplus this deficit budget as in the previous budget. Out of 102 members of the Senate, 86 attended physically, seven online while 6 members could not attend due to personal reasons.
