Neighborhood Watch Committees to be made more active for bridging police-public gap

Islamabad, January 28, 2018 (PPI-OT):Community and service oriented policing is the only way to win public confidence and neighborhood watch committees (NWCs)would be made more effective to bridge gap between police and people. For the purpose of promoting community policing, two meetings were held at Secretariat and City police station with members of NWC presided over by SP Sadar Aamir Niazi and SP City Ahmad Iqbal. The meetings were attended by ASPs/SHOs/HROs of police stations in these zones. During meetings, the participants were briefed about structure, working, objectives, goals of said committees.

Following vision of IGP Islamabad Dr. Sultan Azam Temuri and SSP Najeeb ur Rehman Bugvi, it was emphasized to work jointly with local police through community policing and curb crime, maintain law and order, security by their involvement and feedback. The representatives from four segments of Community as envisaged by the IGP were present. The members were also briefed about the initiative and were requested to come forward with there ideas as to how police can liaison with the community to render its functions effectively and project the soft image of the police.

The members warmly welcomed the initiative and forwarded many suggestions including strict checks for community policing membership, awareness campaigns about security and safety of citizens, medical camps, health walks etc. The meetings ended with hope to enhance coordination in future and work effectively for better policing.
