New Dutch Economic Counsellor, Islamabad visits the OICCI

Karachi, October 22, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Economic First Secretary of the of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mr. Paul Ederer, accompanied by Hammad Raza, Economic Affairs, Karachi Trade Officer, visited OICCI on October 20, 2021, for a courtesy call and to get the Chamber’s outlook on the current business environment in Pakistan. The newly appointed Economic First Secretary was welcomed by M. Abdul Aleem, Secretary General, OICCI.

Abdul Aleem shared a detailed presentation with the guests, which included a brief of research profile of OICCI, including a snapshot of the members contribution to the economy, overview of the current security environment, investment landscape of the country, role of the chamber in facilitating FDI in the country including key challenges and opportunities for foreign investors. He mentioned that Pakistan offers a lot of opportunities for foreign investors and emphasized that OICCI members remain optimistic about the business potential of the country and have made capital investment of over US$ 18 billion, which is more than the country’s total FDI, in last nine years.

Mr. Paul Ederer discussed and sought OICCI’s views on several matters of business interest, which included current security, law and order assessment, business outlook, Intellectual Property laws and potential sectors for FDI in Pakistan. M. Abdul Aleem mentioned that there is a need to improve the international image of the country as “Security, Law and Order” is no more among the top five pain points of foreign investors based on OICCI Perception and Investment Survey of 2019. Based on the views shared by M Abdul Aleem, Mr. Paul Ederer agreed to review their travel advisory.

Mr. Paul Ederer expressed interest in the offer of M. Abdul Aleem for the revival of the annual meeting of Economic Chiefs/ Advisors at Islamabad, which was co-hosted by the Netherland Embassy, post Covid-19. Such an interaction will provide an opportunity to better understand the political, economic, and business climate of Pakistan and the region. In conclusion, Mr Paul Ederer thanked M. Abdul Aleem for the presentation and the responses to the queries for better understanding of the Chamber’s viewpoint on current business environment of Pakistan.
