NIA notice to Mirwaiz interference in religious affairs: AAC

Srinagar, March 12, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Awami Action Committee has said that the summoning of its Patron and Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, by India’s National Investigation Agency is a direct interference in religious matters. This was stated at an AAC meeting in Srinagar, which was attended by party leaders and activists. An AAC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the meeting was held to discuss the NIA notice to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq wherein he had been asked to appear before NIA in New Delhi.

“The meeting expressed serious concern over the NIA notice and termed it an attempt to harass the Mirwaiz who is not just a political leader of people, but also the Mirwaiz of Kashmir,” the statement said. “People of Kashmir have great respect for the Mirwaiz and a deep emotional bond with him,” it added. The AAC said the NIA notice is a direct interference in religious affairs of Kashmir and an attempt to cause grief to the sentiment of tens of thousands of Kashmiri people.

“Political stand of Mirwaiz and his forum is based on truth and represents the political sentiments of the people. We firmly believe that summon is an attempt to harass our leader. The AAC will always continue to follow the path of peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations,” the statement said.
