Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has remarked that “no revolution in history has retreated as swiftly as yesterday’s. Referring to the protests led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), she said that whether it was May 9 or November 24, their demonstrations have consistently failed.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, the minister stated that PTI’s protest failed to garner public support from Punjab, claiming that former first lady Bushra Bibi fled from the protests last night. She added that on the day of the protest, PTI workers criticized Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, with some reportedly setting his vehicle on fire.
Bukhari further alleged that despite claims of Bushra Bibi’s non-political role, she was ‘adamant’ about securing her husband’s release. She also pointed out the lack of arrangements for protesters, stating, “Their own children are abroad, while those who attended the protests did not even have food.”
Highlighting the damages, she said 22 Punjab police vehicles were vandalized during the protests. The minister also disclosed that records of Afghan nationals apprehended at the protests would be made public soon.
