KARACHI:The Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh said Wednesday that the PPP rulers spent a huge amount of Rs 1,646 billion on different so-called development schemes while the rest of other amount was lavishly spent on the merry-masking, parties and construction of the palatial places.

“The corrupt rulers have committed the malpractices and embezzlement of Rs7,226 billion by showing the amount to have spent in non-development,” he alleged while addressing a news conference in his office in Sindh Assembly. He lashed out at Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah for what he called making false, fabricated and baseless statistics while presenting the fiscal budget.

The PTI leader claimed that their decision to register the peaceful protest during the session was their democratic right to expose the corrupt and wicked rulers of Sindh, who according to him, had failed to provide any relief to the people of the province and to bring the changes to the damaged infrastructure in the entire province by not carrying out the schemes despite having more than enough funds at their disposal.

Sheikh claimed that the PPP rulers in Sindh had crossed all the limits of the loot and plunder and caused widespread destruction and devastation everywhere. He reiterated that the PPP rulers in Sindh received Rs 8,912 billion over past 13 years but had done nothing for the people of the province adding that more than 80 percent of the amount was released to the Sindh government by the federal government.

He said that those involved in such massive scams would have to be accountable for their huge corrupt practices. Sheikh, who is also the central vice president of Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf (PTI), said that the Sindh chief minister had been holding the keys of Sindh’s treasure for the past 13 years and was only interested in pleasing his masters by greasing their palms.

Shah over the past 13 years had plundered the public money of Sindh mercilessly. He asked him to stop crying over the schemes announced by the Imran Khan-led federal government for Sindh during the current fiscal budget. He said that according to the government documents, the Sindh government had spend Rs 900 billion on the local government, Rs 800 billion on law and order and other and other departments but the ground realities from school buildings to hospitals and from overflowing gutters to the unabated killing of innocent cops during the encounters due to poor state of vehicles including APCs spoke contrary to their tall false claims.

He said that incompetent rulers did not bother to spend even a single penny on nearly 4,000 sanctioned schemes while they left as many as 2,246 schemes and projects across the province in doldrums despite the fact during past two years the sanctioned budgetary allocations could not be spent due to unknown reasons by the high-ups of Sindh government.

The PTI leader claimed that the Sindh government still had over Rs 85 billion in its kitty at a time when the financial year was likely to be over. He said that the Sindh government during the upcoming fiscal year would get Rs300 billion more due to Covid-pandemic from the federal government.

He said that Larkana district had become infamous for the rising cases of HIV virus, while infants were dying in Tharparkar owing to hunger and diseases, adding the people of the desert district Tharparkar, after failing to get any relief from the government, were committing suicides.

The PTI leader said that the PPP government did not bother to renovate and construct the gutters in Karachi, which, according to him, might play havoc in the wake of the predicted heavy rainfalls during upcoming monsoon season. He reiterated that functionaries of the Sindh government had not bothered to construct as many as 38 gutters of the city, which could again wreak havoc in case of more rainfalls this year.

Sheikh alleged that PPP rulers were just interested in the development in Bilawal House, Chief Minister House and to please cabinet members and owners of Omni Group. “Entire coastal belt of Sindh has been in the worst conditions and the children of the poor people were falling prey to stray dogs across the province. The PTI leader said that he had requested the Speaker Agha Siraj Durani not allow him to present the fiscal budget but his request was turned down. MPA Shahnawaz Jadoon and other PTI leaders were also present during the press conference.
