The National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) has successfully energized the second 250 MVA autotransformer at the 220 kV Grid Station in WAPDA Town, Lahore, marking a significant step towards enhancing the region’s power transmission capacity.

According to a NTDC statement today, this upgrade, executed by the Project Delivery (North) Lahore team, involved replacing the existing 160 MVA, 220/132 kV autotransformer (T-2) with a more powerful 250 MVA 220/132 kV unit. The energization of the new autotransformer is part of the World Bank-funded National Transmission Modernization Project (NTMP-1).

The enhanced capacity of the 220 kV WAPDA Town Grid Station is expected to substantially boost power transmission to Lahore and surrounding areas. This vital upgrade will ensure a more reliable electricity supply to both domestic and industrial consumers, improving stability and reducing transmission constraints for Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) customers.

NTDC Managing Director Engr Muhammad Waseem Younas lauded the Project Delivery (North) Lahore team for completing the work ahead of schedule.
