MADEJI:One child died and eight others are suffering from measles in various villages surrounding Madeji, PPI learnt on Wednesday.

According to a report, Dildar son of Abdul Wahab Junejo, 4 years, died of measles in Saman Junejo village of Union Council Jindo Dero located near here. According to the villagers, two little brothers of the same village including 4-year Shafqat and 2-year Nazakat, both sons of Barkat Junejo are also infected with the deadly disease. 3-year girl Dua, daughter of Raja Junejo, 4-year Suhana daughter of Khamiso Junejo, Anmol son of Ali Hassan Junejo and Israr son of Ashique Junejo are also suffering from measles but the health department officials are in deep sleep. When the news of the death of one kid spread in the nearby villages, a panic was created among the poor residents but they were unable to do anything except to inform media persons to help them.

Villagers complained that measles is spreading fast among various villages but health department officials of Shikarpur have taken no pains to visit the affected areas. They said three days before anti-polio drops were administered to the children under five after which measles had emerged.

They urged the Sindh Government to immediately depute emergency teams and arrange vaccination of the children to save precious lives. The emergence of measles cases has exposed the working to EPI in Sindh whether their teams are performing proper immunization or they are just filling the papers.
